While playing can be as simple as putting a chip on a square, your knowledge of how to win at roulette can be greatly increased by understanding
the many different bet types, and the odds associated with each one. If you are unfamiliar with roulette bet types and terms such as street, corner, straight up, and split, then this section will explain it for you.
To understand the chances of winning you need to know the bet types, and understand that there are two types of roulette wheel, the American
wheel with two green pockets which increase the house edge, and the slightly fairer European wheel with a single pocket. Fortunately, all the
live roulette games featured here use the European wheel, and we will give their odds here.
There are several ways of using your chips to cover more than one area on the table:
Straight Up
This is the most common bet. The chip is placed completely in a betting area, with no overlap to other regions. In the example shown, a win
will be given if following the roulette wheel stopping, the ball is in either a red pocket, on the number 16, or between the values of 13 and
24.
Split
A split bet is where the chip is covering two adjacent cells. Here, the odds of winning are doubled, but the payout is halfed due to only half
the chip being on any given cell. In the example shown, if the roulette ball lands on either 1, 2, 3 or 6, a win will be given.
Corner
The big brother of the spin bet, the corner covers four numbers - however the win is a quarter of what you would expect with a straight up,again, because the chip is covering four cells. In the example, a win will be given if the roulette wheel ends with the ball in the 4, 5, 7,or 8 pocket.
Street
A street gives you the chance to bet 1/3rd of your chip on three adjacent cells on a single row. This will give you a win if either 1, 2, or
3 is spun by the roulette wheel.
Line
A line is a two streets; 1/6th of each chip is in each of the cells. In the example shown, a roulette win will be given if the ball lands in
the 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, or 21 pockets.
Column
A Column bet is a bet on a single column; 1/12th of the chip is placed on each number in the column selected.
Obviously, the more squares that you’re covering on the roulette table, the greater your chance the roulette wheel will end up with the ball
in one of your pockets! The odds breakdown by bet type is as follows:
